what is the cheapest kit, idk if it would be cheaper buying a crank, rods, and pistons separately? I have a 78 3970010 block that it will be going into, and I would prefer an internal balance so I can keep driving my vette until the build is complete so I can reuse the current flywheel
Know that you may need more clearancing for rods ck the cam also. Sometimes the cheap mismatched kits require more to balance.
Just have to make the calls and do your research.
im not sure, I just tore down the engine today, when I pulled a head I noticed the NR3 piston was hitting it, pulled the piston and the bearing from the cap of the rod spun between the crank and rod, moving it up, idk if it will be able to be turned or not to correct it, its about a step of the thickness of a dime from where the bearing came to rest. I was just looking at options, everything else looked great, it had 2.02 heads on it, tons of sludge and 103k miles
I saved an article on my computer some time back from Super Chevy or Chevy Hi Performance about a build they did with a 383 kit from a company called Powerhouse. I can't find it right this second, but if you google it I'm sure it's there
I think powerhouse is going to be the hot ticket, I had forgotten about them but a kit, crank, pistons, rings, rods, balancer, and flywheel is 549$
I wondered if Powerhouse was still around. They had the best price several years ago when the 383 conversion popularity really took off.
I see balancing adds $200 to the $550 price. Still a good deal at $750. However, are the parts all name-brand? Hard to tell from the advertisement. That price is also cast pistons. I assume cast 3.75 crank also.
