Whenever we're alone, I gaze longingly at her sumptious curves, and I try not to make her mad. She might make me go shopping for her again and spend money, I don't have!

My wife swears I love my vette more than her since I don't spend much on her much as I do on the vette. We all need to be be careful.
Mid 80's wife thought I was going to look at a pickup truck. I was at the time helping a friend sell off some of his vehicles. He gave me a deal on one of his vettes. I came home with a 74 BB t-top coupe. Where I picked it up from was a few blocks from home and had some beers with the owner. Got home a little drunk and late for dinner. It really steamed the wife's clams. She said, "that isn't a pickup truck"... I replied, "yeah it is, it reallys hauls". That was the best project car I ever did. Was a major turing point in our relationship for the good. She complained to her coworkers about it and they told her she was way out of line. They were tired of husbands that got home from work and grabbed a beer and watched some sports junk on TV and never fixing anything around the house. Actually had some of them getting rather sweet on me!!
So bottom line, is vette guys are pretty valuable and special and anything else that can be said in the good direction..
OleDave,
I think back in the day I paid $4500, the motor was strong and had a mild cam in it already. I cleaned it up and painted it. didn't care if it was a color correct car. Did put a couple grand in it. Drove it for a summer and sold it to and really ugly guy for $8500 (he bought it in hopes of picking up chicks!!!).
Nowadays, things cost a lot more. So keep a very open (wallet) mind and enjoy the whole process. Cars never make you money anymore for the most part. However if that is really a 74, it is the last year of the Big Block. Yes they didn't make much horsepower according to the factory specs, but mine with just a mild cam was a dangerous car. With factory stock automatic in drive under full throttle, would get 2nd gear rubber. Took it a couple of times several hundred miles over 100mph and the sound in the cabin was sweet music... Time depends on how much the old girl needs. Do the best job you can with funds available. Do as much work yourself as you can and look to the forum for help. Caution. I love forums in general, however look at several resources for info as not all things get stated correctly.
Keep in mind the struggle that we can put on ourselves. Been working in muggy 90+ heat on my 69 and at 61 my body is just suffering. The message is you bring on the aches and pains to your own degree on old cars. It isn't that easy as you get older to flop on the ground and work on things. But it will keep you young, both physically and mentally and much better than watching over paid thugs on TV throwing around a ball and fighting over it.
I have a similar story just stay with me for a second. I have a olds 442 with a 455 motor. I would try and get my wife to go for a ride and when I did I always had someone trying to race me or would brake the tires loose in second. She would always say why do you do that, my reply was because I can. Fast forward to my 81 and our 04 Vette. They can't be loud enough or we can't go fast enough in them for her. She loves our Vettes but hates the 442 go figure. To me fast us fast and loud is loud.....but vettes are better at both.
...You may wan to remind her, that like cars, she too can be replaced when shes gets old and worn out...
Try that and her attorney will arrange for you to lose your car along with the house, the boat, your motorcycle, both kids, half your retirement, and the cat.

Exactly!
Seems to me a trip to Summit IS a second, third, 45th, honeymoon.
Most of us have a "relationship" with our 'vettes. Not a romantic one, obviously, like with our wives and girlfriends, but a relationship, nonetheless. Don't let your relationship with your wife/girlfriend interfere with your relationship with your 'vette, and vice-versa. Keep them away from each other. That's why you like being alone with your 'vette, and with your wife/girlfriend. Two's company, three's a crowd.
Yep, I agreed as well when I first read it. Unless she has an interest in it (like it's hers...)
My third ex-wife (gawd...) accused me of 'breaking' all kinds of parts on her 87' C4 when I did the top end on her car a few years ago and just about 99% of what broke was brittle connectors, plastics or stuff that legitimately needed replacing, like the original EGR, and the original Fuel Pressure Regulator that are far easier to replace when the TPI intake is off, than not!
Despite the ration of crap from her, it started immediately and passed smog here in Kalifornia.
