If you do take it off you can start the engine and see if the noise is gone. It won't hurt to run it a few minutes without it. I had to bend the inspection plate on my automatic just enough to give clearance because it was tapping like that from vibrating.

With inspection cover off, tapping goes away.
I guess Ill have to look for marks on the inside of the cover and see if I can bend it out around that area
The only sing of wear was on the very edge on one side of the middle cut-out. I cut the corners on both sides and reinstalled the cover. Of course now with the open headers I cant hear anything but the motor.... I'll have to listen for the tapping again once the rest of the exhaust is on but hopefully this was it.
OK guys, the ticking is back. This time I was able to reproduce it and narrow down when it happens.
While cruising I put it in neutral and let go of the clutch, take my foot off the gas and just coast - and ticking eventually slows down along with the motor revs and goes away, as soon as I give it some gas (still in neutral) the ticking comes back, let off the gas and ticking eventually goes away again.
But then again.....as heard in the video above, it was ticking in neutral without reving the motor...... i got nothing.....
