My 78 L82 with air and auto trans has a really fast curb idle, right arounf 1500 rpm. I took a look at the quadrajet this weekend thinking I would just adjust the idle speed screw on the idle solenoid but the linkage wasn't even contacting either of the screws.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be holding the linkage up, holding my curb idle around 1500 rpm even after the choke is open?
Sounds like you are hanging up on the fast idle cam--I had the same problem. The cam is behind the choke linkage on the passenger side. I don't know if your QJet is different from my '68, but on mine, looking from the front of the car, you can see a screw that will adjust your fast idle; try running this adjustment out and then back in past where it was set, then back out again to where it was. This freed up whatever was stuck on mine, been working perfectly ever since.
You could also try working the fast idle cam by hand, although I'd bet it's seized up a bit and could use some cleaning/lubrication.
You can just make out the head of the fast idle adjustment screw in this photo. It's a 1/4 hex with a slot. I usually use a flexible carb screwdriver to adjust it. It's the gold cad colored screw just peeking out underneath the choke on the passenger side of the carb, near the front corner of the baseplate.
