Spark plug boot breaks apart

Found two bad spark plug wire boots.
Any idea what would cause this to happen on only two of them
This one crumbled in my hand, rubber very stiff

This one split when I squeezed it

The heat from the headers/exhaust manifolds. There's insulating sleeve available for that.

Yup. Absolutely.
There are silicone covered plug wire sets available that tend to live longer in a high heat environment.

Get some of the 9000 series plug wires from Acell. I used them on my L-48 with headers. I also went with plugs that were a bit shorter. No issues after two years.

I'm continually replacing one or two Taylor boots/leads due to exactly that - crumbling away from heat exposure - and they are not that close to headers!
