I posted a few weeks ago about getting wheel centering rings. Can anyone help me figure what size I need? They are sold in metric sizes. I have all kinds of precision measuring tools, but none in metric. What is the standard hub size on our cars? Is anyone running vintage americans, especially 200s? What is the hub size on yours? Thanks again. Not sure why they measure in metric. Isn't thousandths of an inch pretty precise?
The wheels do not center on the hub like the factory wheels do. The wheel hub opening is bigger for a universal fit. This can be a cause of vibration. My wheels use the shank type nuts, and after 40 years of rotating tires the holes are worn some. I'm just trying to eliminate any problems.
The use of dial or digital calipers is notoriously inaccurate. It takes some skill and experience to get it right, and even then it's only good to plus or minus a couple of thousands. If you want a precision measurement of the hub, then I suggest you use a micrometer.
The centering ring i.d. should be 70.6mm. You'll need to measure the i.d. of your wheel hub bore to know what size o.d. centering ring to order. I ordered centering rings last year from motorsport-tech.com.
