A BIG Thankyou !!!
Thankfully - 2 fellow S&S tourers - ( and forum members, and shark owners ) - Eddie Herman and Pete Laska - stopped to help out.
The only tools we could come up with - between the 3 of us - were a single pair of nail clippers, so Ed and his wife went to find some tools - which resuted in a trip to Wal-Mart and back.
In the mean time, Pete was able to determine that I was getting NO spark. When Ed returned with package of tools, Pete went to work.
Seems my MSD 6A decided it was just too hot a day for work and quit. Pete hooked me back up the way the Detroit guys had intended and we were on out way. The car ran better without the 6A than it ever had with it.
Anyway - This story is about these two guys - Who, on a very hot day, stopped their S&S touring to help me out - then when I suggested that they finish the leg - refused to NOT lend me a hand - and stuck with me until the problem was resolved.
Ed - Thanks again for running for the tools - without them we couldn't have completed the trip !!!
and
Pete - Thanks for everthing !!! You certainly knew your stuff and I know that there were only maybe 2 guys on the whole leg 'who knew how and were WILLING to' rewire my ignition on the side of a major freeway in 95 degree heat !!!
Guys you are the the BEST !!!
Thanks Again

2. You set out on a 300 mile drive in a 72 with NO TOOLS
You idiot!!!! :) :)
3. See my recent thread titled, "switched back to points" !!!
But even when I had the pertronix in my car I always traveled with a spare set of points in the car..... and tools!!
Anyway, great job to all of you... turning a potential nightmare into a minor inconvenience! :) MJ
But I gotta tell ya - I'm would not have known how to rewire the thing even if I had broken down in a Sears parking lot - Pete knew which wires colors went where off the top of his head - I needed a schematic

I gotta agree...Need to carry some tools and spare parts just in case :yesnod:

I figure with these and a Leatherman Wave I should be able to over come simple mechanical difficulties. After that I need a ride to get my bigger tool set in the garage. Tools, I never leave home without them.

It was an easy fix and we couldn't have you miss Patrick's party.
As for tools, Patrick said to bring your own lawn chairs so by the time I got 2 lawn chairs, mine and my son's duffel bags, the t-tops and a beer cooler something had to stay home. You have to have your priorities staight!
Had a great time on the S&S cruise and did a little vactioning with my son at Great America and House on the Rock outside of Madison. Put on just under 800 miles over the weekend and other the a small starter glitch mine ran flawless.
Again I was glad to help out a friend and anyone that drives a Vette is a friend of mine!  :flag
BTW - You were right - 2 wires to the one side. Found it and where the previous owner had cut original harness. All back together now the way Detroit designed it. AND this may / or may not work - but my LS5 has a heat shield between the starter soleniod and the exhaust manifold - bolts to the start support bracket - it would probably also work on your L82 - might help your heat soak problem !!!
Thanks again !!!
