Default RE: 79 Vette electrical problem

Ok inspected gauge problem (new purchase). Removed instrument cluster (small gauges) found spaghetti noodles! AGUUUUUUUH! So looked at circuit board burnt. Ordered new one. Used crimps to monkey rig connections for fuel and temp gauge. So Now I wanna fix it properly. wiring harness connector can be purchased w no contacts. No biggie, I will visit an electrical store and make something up. The problem is on the back of the instrument cluster housing there is a black plastic retainer that holds the harness connector where the hell can I find this piece as the idiot(s) that owned this poor baby before me even removed, lost, or broke this piece. Nobody knows what the hell I am talking about and nobody seems to have this piece. Wondering. MacGyver this together then. Ok so crimps make the gauges work, fine but what about illuminating the gauges at night? How do I fix that? New bulp sockets? All wired to one hot and all wired to one grounded to make em all run off the switch? What a dilemma for a super novice here? P.S. I never learned how to set the time on a VCR!

well, figured it out. The connector has prongs that hold the harness in place. Working without parts is a bit of a challenge. Well that's one down!
