Default Why big wings ?

Why do ricers put these huge wings on their cars? To me some of them look like a cross between a cellular antenna and sputnik.
Now I realize that the wing has a purpose in life, that it provides downforce on the DRIVE wheels at speeds above 80 MPH.
So how does putting a wing on the rear of a front wheel drive car help high-speed stability? Shouldn’t it be on the hood?
Just a thought.

They are actually there to slow those bad boys down and even the field for those of us not clever enough to have bought a sports car disguised as a pizza delivery vehicle. :yesnod:

The words ricer and "speeds above 80 MPH" do not mix. There would be wings and stickers flyin' off all over the place!!! :jester

the size of the wing and the size of the owners ***** are an inverse ralationship.
look here: you have K W and P. K is a constant value. W is wing size, and P is ***** size.
then you have K=W*P. as you can see, since K doesnt change then as W increases, P decreases.

so its really just a way to say "hey, i have a smaller ***** then you.....hahaha"

It is very simple. The first ricer got a little wing put on his car to help over come the loss of traction when launching his car and driving. When that did not work he decided to try a bigger wing. Now he thinks his car will launch great and never have traction problems due to all the downforce he now has, but upon trying it out he is still spinning off the line. So he figures after renting the engine hoist to get that wing on he will just leave it on. Now everyone else thinks it looks cool, and they got to have it to make them quicker. I think all the wing stuff could corrected if someone would be kind enough to point out to the ricers the rear wing is for added traction and stability of rear wheel drive vehicles.

Those are actually picnic tables mounted on the rear. The bigger the wing, the more room they have when they stop to have a picnic.

I am glad I am not the only one who finds these vehicles a total joke. How many ricers have you seen that can even spin the (front) tires at ANY speed. Or how many at the track?
