If it were my car, I'd purchase one of the brand new, "modified" console bezels that accommodate a current "single DIN" stereo, and enjoy the higher powered, ipod capable head unit.
The retro sound units will give you IPod capability, I believe you can also add CD changers to their head units if desired. The vendors all sell them on their websites.
I just bought one from corvette central easy install looks like the original but I'm not sure the quality is that great will see how long it lasts here's a pic
