Default Which cam?

I am buying a 69 427 with a newly rebuilt motor. Seems like now would be a good time to change cams if I were ever going to do it. So it seems like a hyd. roller cam/rockers is the way to go. If I wanted to boost power and get a good "loup" without sacrificing dependability, which cam, or at least which specs, would be best?

i have a 427 in one of my other cars, I have a comp hyd. roller cam 252 duration at 50 on intake and exhaust and .612 lift, great power, I have a 2800 stall behind it, th350 and 4.11 gears, it sounds very radical.

You might consider contacting Chris Straub and tell him exactly what you want out of your car. He has a great record and can design something specifically to you wishes. Until you decide exactly what you want from the car, asking for recommendations is a waste of time, because they will be all over the board.

He just did a cam for me and I couldn't be more pleased.

Ralph.

here is my advice.

Don't solicit for the answer here. sorry if I upset anyone.

to pick a cam you need car weight- gears- tire size trans type carb set up etc etc..

Call one of the cam tech lines and have them find your answer.

Then you can pick between all the various vendors to make your purchase.

Make sure you get cam lifters and springs from the same people.

yes now is the time

good luck

Once you select a cam, share your rebuild experience and performance improvements.

Look out now, ethanol Mike will be here shortly to inform you of your ignorance!

Hey..nothing wrong with running corn juice in your car. If your car is driven on a regular basis, what other choice do you have?

Leaving it in the tank and carb bowl when in storage...especially in a humid environment...is just asking for trouble...unless you live in Canada and it has never been a problem for you.

Is that all you intend to do to your "lump" or "junkyard truck" motor...change the cam? C'mon, you told us you were a real gear head?

I gotta tell ya, the block and heads do not look like they were cleaned and rebuilt. What was done to the engine? Was the block boiled? Were assembly lubricants used? How about break-in procedures on an engine dyno? Were the lifters properly adjusted prior to startup? How about after run-in? I mean...you are just throwing out some you know what here. Sure...roller cams are a great invention. But those flat tappet cams did the job for many, many years. Made one helluva lot of horsepower too.

Really? The majority of the "Cam Tech Lines" are staffed by high school kids, dropouts or complete idiots that have no clue other than what the computer spits out. I have seen others try this route and end up with a 20 degree variation in duration between various vendors, Garbage in garbage out. If the OP gives us compression. rear gearing, trans and intended use I and other knowledgeable members can set him up with a good option for his intended use. If your going through the work a roller is the way to go.

Thanks for all the replies. I am getting ahead of myself. Heck, I fly down to Fl. Sept. 19th and am driving it ( 69- 427) back to Va. I'll get back to this subject later. Tks again I just can't have a stock V-8 Camaro or worse yet, Mustang, make me look bad!!! My vette has got to be a little stouter than that!!! I know, money, money and more money!!! Can't take it with you!!!!
