Want to replace light switch but after removing lower trim plate and two bolts holding steering column it will not lower. Don't see anything else holding it but must have missed something.
Not to be a wise guy, but there are 2 screws on the side in the jamb and 3 screws along the top front. Also some coming in from the center cluster. Not sure if ya got to those yet. John
The tach cable is usually a tight fit with not much slop. That might be holding the dash close. Also the vent does some holding on also.
That said, I have been able to replace the light switch in my 74 with out removing the panel. It takes small hands and even then isn't easy, but slow pulling and bending and cussing, it got done.
With corner pulled loose was able to remove headlight switch, now not sure if my car
(1977) has the correct switch. This one has the two ports for vaccum lines and seven tabs for electric connector, the one auto parts store shows for this year has none. Eckers shows a picture of the one I need as listed for 1979/82 cars. Any ideas?
The one I pulled out of my 74 (why do we keep old broken stuff??) has 7 electrical connections and 2 vacuum ports underneath to make the headlights go up and down. Maybe the one at the parts store is for a 'regular' chev with no vacuum (Vette headlight) needs.
You need vac ports.
Ordered switch from Eckler's for my '77 that has vac ports. Local Chev dealers only carry parts back ten years now so they were no help. Guess car will just have to sit here in garage another 3/5 days waiting.
