Welcome to the forum.

Your heat problem could be several things. Water shutoff valve not working, causing the hot radiator fluid to cycle through the heater core. Poor insulation under the carpet. Poor insulation in the trans tunnel. Missing insulation on top of the trans. Bad hood seal. No insulation at the firewall.

The A/C could be MANY things also. What exactly is it doing?

Congratulations on getting your '81. Tell us more about it. Post some pictures of it.

Some of the guys on the forum know a lot about A/C but you would have to post some specifics before they would be able to assist you in a diagnosis.
See what information you can find using the forum search http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerosearch
Check both the recent topics and the archived topics. Odds are that you will find enough information to get you on the right path.

Good luck and keep us posted.
