My 71 has an issue w/the windshield wipers. Do not know if I did something wrong when I replaced the radio or if something just went out. It seems that all parts are getting power, except that the washer pump motor appears burnt. Is it necessary to have a functioning washer pump motor for the wipers to operate correctly? I have replaced the switch already & just bought a new wiper motor expecting to get everything w/it. Not the case. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No.. you do not have to have a working washer pump for the wipers to work.
Have you tested the old motor or for that matter the new one? Most of the motors turned in as cores are good motors so make sure the motor is the problem first.
You said you replaced the radio... is the center dash bezel broken between the wiper plate and the lower bezel? If it is you'll need to run a jumper ground from the switch to the bezel. The wiper switch must be grounded for the system to work and breaking this tiny area between the two can cause a ground to be lost.
Thanks. The top part of my console where the switch is mounted is on the workbench. Switch just hanging. I'll give it a try.
Yeap... run a ground to the switch and see if it works. Then if it does you'll have to run a jumper wire from the switch to the back of the small gauge bezel for a permanent fix.
