strange rattle from engine
Heys guys.... i took the car for a drive the other day and discovered a very unusual noise...something ive never heard before. It is in the engine bay for sure but i cant get it make noise sitting at idle or by revving. The only time it done it was while driving.... both taking off and normal driving......i was able to keep noise going at about 1500 rpm but i can accelerate out of it...so far it has done it in 1,2,3 gears but not in 4 th yet. To describe it best is a rattle or ratchet noise with a metal clacking to it. Iv read some threads about slack in timing chain .....damper falling apart and fan clutch goin out....i cant say for sure since i cant get the noise to happen when i can look under hood to better locate it. Anyone had a similar problem?

This noise only occurs while the engine is under a load at lower rpms? Sounds like detonation. It makes a rattle sound when under a load at low rpms that can stop one the rpms come up high enough. Check you mechanical advance springs see if one broke or came off. Also that it operates freely returning back to full retard once it's been advanced.
