Default Need help, Carb intake and headers

have 78 L-82...been looking at Jegs. Price ranges are pretty far apart, want quality and best bang for my buck for what I have.

Also which header will give the best sound and performance?

I have been told many times...and now a believer, you can have any of the 2... but never all 3

1 Cheap, inexpensive

2. reliable, trouble free

3. high performance, speed, power

headers, make sure they have a large thick flange so you dont get leaks, make sure they are ceramic powder coated so they dont burn your plug boots.....

intake: is this a final mod? or is this the beginning of a major high performance build... if stock then the Edelbrock performer... but if this is just the beginning of a major high performance build, get the manifold that will work best with your final build rather than buying twice.

Carb... again, stock or major build... stock the Edelbrock 650 is great... major build??? also stock the Q-jet rebuilt is fine...

Stock q-jet intake will support most builds up to 400hp. Edelbrock Performer is pretty close to OEM (to clear corvette hood). I replaced my OEM aluminum intake with 3701 Performer because mine was weeping coolant back near distributor (porous).

If you have q-jet, aluminum OEM intake, I'd go with a coated (inside and out) set of full length 1 5/8" headers, true duals and turbo mufflers, good q-jet performance rebuild with jetting by reputable q-jet builder, dizzy recurve and reuse the OEM aluminum intake. This will be a good 50hp performance increase that you will feel.

With carbs spread bore intake rebuilt Q jet or holly 4165. Headers please run true dual exhaust not two into one into two.

I would really consider wraping the headers before you install them. It would be so simple and you won't regret it.

If you have the side exhaust, you really need the side exhaust headers. Something like this:

Well, if you take a look at where your engine is, and where your sidepipes are, you'll see that if you use a conventional set of long tube headers, it will be necessary to fabricate a 180 degree bend, followed by a 90 degree bend, in order for the exhaust pipe to line up with the sidepipe. I've seen 'vette's where people actually did this, and it's just plain ridiculous. As far as the intake, you can find Edelbrock 2101 intakes on ebay and craigslist for 50 bucks, if you hunt around.

I know we put a voodoo cam 60102lk in a 77 L82 with a weiand street warrior intake, and the hooker headers/ exhaust system on it with flow masters, alittle too loud for my taste but that little bit of work woke that thing up!! it was a rocket! and it would get 15mpg! we kept the Q-jet on it

Nope but they do have a loud, mean sound that you are looking for. They may be cheaper also.

No STS will not fit they are intended for the Hooker style side exhaust not the factory style you currently have.
