<Rant>I am starting to hate the certification process</Rant>
This is starting to drive me mad. (I am going to need to be certified.)
This really sucks because this process is starting to make me hate the car.
A little background. I got the car at christmas and it has been in my garage ever since.
I have been working on it all my self and the only thing sombody else has done was weld the frame for me. I have gone through one certification already and I failed with flying colours. Leaking brake system, messed frame, missing lights, broken hoses... Lots a fun. Well I finally fixed it all. Replaced the master cylinder, the front left brake caliper, brake lines, lights, fuel hoses... Lots a fun. So I took it in today with everything fixed from the original list... Now they are telling me that the replaced front caliper is leaking, and they need to see a reciept to see that the master cylinder is inded new... Maybe this is how it goes... Maybe now. But all I know is that I am out $140 CDN (Certification x2) (Ya I know that is like $0.40US, but eh.) And I still don't have a certification......
This is so agravating.. I can't find anything wrong with the car. It is hundreds of times better then when I got it.. This is just driving me nuts.........
I haven't driven my car more then 2 min since I got it. (up the street to see if I have brakes, then back home)... So I have yet to "Experence" the car. It is really making me wonder if I should have bought it in the first place...
Eh. Sorry I just needed to rant. I am very frustrated.
Hope fully this will all be over by 6:00 tonight and I will have a certification in hand.
P.S. It is just agravating the situation that I am trying to get ready for the Dyno day us Toronto guys are having on saturday.....

Chris, sorry to hear about the certification hassles. I know the frustration you're going through. My car had many problems that had to be dealt with (at great expense!) in the month or so after I got her -- brakes, rear end, lots of engine issues, which I eventually solved with the ZZ4.
Once it's all sorted out, your current pain will be quickly forgotten. Vettes in good times have a way of making you forget the bad times!

You guys just didn't know the right mechanics, and no I didn't use Santos for this. Once the certification is over then the real fun and $ begins. :yesnod:
Dude: we are still very lucky that it is relatively easy to get certified up here especially when one looks to California.

Well I failed. :mad
Stupid NEW caliper leaked. I am on an emergency run to somwhere about 1.5h away (Each Way) to get a new one. Grr. Almost there. This is it. Just put a new one on and then take it back tomorow morning for a quick check and IT will be all good.
Thanks for everybody's kind words. It was exactly what I needed. Made me feel a bit better. Although I will feel tons better tomorow when I have a sticker on my plate.
Re: <Rant>I am starting to hate the certification process</Rant> (PyjamaSam)
Sounds like you need to make friends with some mechanics! It isn't that hard to certify an vehicle with your problems, you just gotta know the right people.
Hope you get certified...... I tried it the right way once and the same thing happened. they tore the car apart....... I came back the next year to the same place with my friend who knows the guy and he didn't even look at the car, he just wrote up the inspection sheets.

Ya that is what I was starting to think...
On a positive note. I got it all done. I have stickers. Woo hoo I am a happy man.
I made an emergency run last night and I was swaping a front caliper out at 1:00AM, but it all paid off. It is all done. I am driving it to work tomorow.
Re: <Rant>I am starting to hate the certification process</Rant> (PyjamaSam)
Congratulations! Now lets work on keeping it running it tip top condition. Did you try bribery? May have been easier to slip the inspector a few extra hundred $$$$'s. Or just do what I do, just keep going to places till you find someone that will pass you. :D

Yeah, cool ... In my world, that's either negligence or fraud on the part of the mechanic, either of which can cost him his license to do safety certifications.
Not that there's anything wrong with taking advantage of it from the owner's point of view, as long as you know enough about the car to be confident that there are no significant safety issues with it.

Exactly and it sounds like pyjamasam knows exactly what is wrong with the car...........just like I did. Any body owning an old vette probably cares more for his car than his own safety so they will not drive an unsafe car...... its just that some mechanics get overzealous and try and screw you over
Re: <Rant>I am starting to hate the certification process</Rant> (mg62)
And it absolutely will drive you nuts. Safety inspections here in Texas seem to depend on the mood of the inspector. Sometimes they glance at it, sometimes they fail it for something like the little purple "brights" indicator on the dash not working. Sounds like a similar situation up there in Canada.
