OK after reading dozens of threads I still can't find the specific info I need. I am removing the cruise control from my '76 and don't want to hack and destroy the wiring. Does anyone have a pic/info/diagram that will show how it hooks into the fuse panel as well as the cut off switch on the brake pedal?
Could be but if this is an aftermarket piece it is one of the best I've seen. From the turn signal lever with the controls to the vacuum controlled servo under the hood. It certainly look factory to me but I can't say for sure.
Did some further investigating on the cruise control and '75 it appears you are correct, it was not offered until '77. So I am wondering if someone took a unit from a '77 and added it to my '76. If so, they really did a good job with the install. In any case I am now left to figure out how they wired in everything so I don't have any live wires left dangling when I'm done.
Well, it may not be from a 77, as it's different from other years. '77 had the cruise on the tilt lever, not the turn signal. '77 also has the servo mounted to the left inner fender with a cable running up to the carb. 78 up, had a servo mounted directly behind the carb with a rod running to the throttle lever. Only suggestion I have is to follow the wires from the transducer (which the speedo cables go in and out of) and disconnedt power there, probably comes from the fuse box ign or acc terminal.
This unit is mounted on the drivers sided fender well with a cable going to the carb. The wiring comes through the firewall in the same grommet as the speedometer cable and all the wiring clear up to the turn signal lever control is encased in a black protective shield. Looks very professional and stock.
GM offered a cruise control aftermarket installation kits for their various models that were not CC equipped. These were well made and replicated the factory installation. I worked in a Chevy/Olds dealer, and installed many of these kits, even modifying some to fit models that the kits were not supplied. (Corvette may have been one of these)
All the wiring and vacuum hoses should be able to be removed with no effect on the OEM harness. The power was picked up at the fuse panel on an ignition supplied terminal, pink wire I think.
That my be what happened here on mine. Thanks for letting me know which wire to look for. Tracing wires on that fuse panel is hard enough let alone looking for the wrong wire.
