Default coolant thingy

1975 c3 automatic

I don't know what its called or what it does. If someone can point me on the right direction I would really appreciate.

It is missing whatever it's supposed to connect to it. It is next to the coolant return hose.

its a temp switch for your smog system, if you dont live in a state where smog is required , most folks remove the hoses and run them direct. usually doesnt let the fresh air door on your air cleaner open till the engine reaches a pre determined temp.

Ok, thats good to know. I bought the car with full exhaust system including headers. I am just making sure everything is correct so I can get into fixing the high idle speed.

Does the hoses that were supposed to go to such switch need to be plugged? They have been removed so I would need to figure out where they go.

I found this picture on another thread. basically it is the vaccum line I need to plug when the smog system is disconnected. Is that the only place that needs to be plugged?

that doesnt need to be plugged, but the places that hook up to it are usually either plugged or have a hose directly connecting them. if you are running an aftermarket air cleaner plug every port you dont need
