hey guys just found a t56 reaaaly cheap...i had contemplated of making my 79 automatic into a 4 or 5 speed car or an automatic with verdrive but this beautiful 6 speed came along after months of hunting craigslist....i was just wondering what will i need to convert from automatic to using the t56... i know i can buy a kit from online but all of them say they are for 5 speed...i need to know exactly what i need in a list form if possible and more or less price. i am that weird kid that while in college i decided to get a corvette so money is my biggest hurdle right now but if you guys have parts or can give me an idea what everything will cost i can start saving or buying parts a little at a time.. thank you guys in advance and have a nice day
came out of a 95 z26 lt1 engine..just tranny.. he was supposed to send bell housing clutch and sensors but have not received them i might have to drive three hours away from my house to collect the money and gas on top if he doesnt send it.. im a big guy so ill see lol as of right now i have only tranny
I installed a LT1 T56 from a 94' Trans Am. I had a nice clutch and flywheel setup from my original 4 speed, so I converted the trans to except it using a custom kit that came with a bellhousing and hydraulic throwout bearing.
Your best bet is to get as much of the stock parts as you can, bellhousing, clutch slave cylinder, etc. You will need a conversion flywheel for the 2 piece rear main seal engine you have http://www.specclutch.com/conversion_combos/view/2
For the clutch master you can get one for an 85' Chevy pickup and search the forums, others have threads on installing it http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...er=734863_0_0_ You will need to get a line made up to connect the master with the slave cylinder. You can modify your existing crossmember. I bought a custom crossmember from Bowtie Overdrives. 82' vette driveshaft, or have your current one shortened and balanced. Not sure if you have the same slip yoke as the 82' vette. The rest is probably close to what I've done in my thread.
Or you can convert the trans with the same kit I used. Here's the thread I made on the swap.
thanks thats a start... by the way sweet car..wooow jus wow beautiful car
Thanks Take your time, save your money for each project along the way. To start with, focus on making sure it's safe to drive, brakes, steering, suspension, etc.
I did most everything all at once while I had the frame out. Took me 7 years to build it the way I wanted it and get it back on the road.
funny you say that my brake light started coming on when i brake..im hoping its just needing to bleed brakes and get all air.dont want to mess with the proportioning valve or that thing all those lines go to.. i just redid my front suspension bushings and welded the a arm "rails" that were coming apart on the driver front wheel....also i need to smog it soon so after that i want to learn how to tune a quadrajet and recurve my distributor... eventuallyyears from now ill go into engine get a paint job... only upgrades ill be doing is recurng dizzy, tuning carb correvtly and maybe have a dual exhaust made with electric cutouts out to side pipes(i have side pipes just never installed), and of course the t56...
maybe change the intake manifold too sine i have an edelbrock air gap without egr hole in my garage.. and no its not the rpm airgap its the performer air gap

If you are keeping the stock Camaro clutch, use the conversion flywheel with any clutch and throw out bearing for the year Camaro the trans came out of. Spec sells a conversion flywheel and clutch, so does CenterForce. I had a shop check the balance on my flywheel for neutral balance before I installed it. Call BowtieOverdrive and tell them what your conversion is and they should be able to get you the correct crossmember. Also, some guys use G-Force crossmembers as another option, but not sure if they need modifications.
mike it doesn't make sense?!??you mean if im using the camaro slave cylinder use any clutch? or do u mean if im using the 95 camaro slave ,fork, and thowout bearing to use any clutch that was supposed to be used on the year that camaro the tranny came out of. granted i do need to buy the aluminum flywheel correct?no need for aluminum flywheel but yes on the conversion flywheel correct? my head is spinning right now got less than a month to do this before school starts and before i could go pply for a job lol

Assuming that you are using the 95' Camaro slave, fork, bellhousing, and throw out. Get the Spec or Centerforce conversion flywheel. The rest of the clutch setup can be 95' Camaro parts. You can call Spec or Centerforce Tech Support to verify the part numbers for your conversion.
I have the stock shifter with no stick, but I decided to get and modified a Hurst shifter to come through the stock console location and it shifts very nice. I'll sell the stock shifter if you decide to keep cost down and need one.
