Hi C-3's. Just read your last topic "Just for fun how much this 70' worth" with Nam-Vet.
Lots of action.
I'm from the C-4 forum, I have a Blk. 87' Convertible with 30k miles,
but thougt I would upgrade to a C-3.
I saw this on eBay today and I think I'm in love. Blk. 68' 427
435 Tri-power Corvette.
Please give me your opinions on this car,
what's it worth, what to look for in this year cars,
what questions to ask,
and approximately how much more $ require to get it into a decent condition.
It can get hot here in Hawaii, can I get by without a/c on this cars,
or is it a Biggg NO- NO to install a A/C, and can it be done in a 427...ooops I hope Nam- Vet don't see this question. If you do....AT ease, take a hit and have a brownie. I also was a Vet in Nam.
Here's an opinion. A/C was not available on 435 or 430 hp cars. C-3's can get pretty hot (common complaint) inside, Headers would of course make it worse. It is ALMOST impossible to instal factory A/C but is at least one company that make a kit for C-3's that is supposed to work very good. If it is your intent to keep it original then you wouldn't want to do that but If you buy the car it is yours to do as you please. IF is an original nice example it would be worth more than one that was modified/ or faked. Documentaion is a must if you are paying top dollar. Tank sticker at the minimun. If possible get some help from a local Guru on this. There are several books like the corvette black book and you can check out http://www.ncrs.org board and archives.
FYI, the 435 cars didn't come with a dual point distributor from the factory, they had "TI" electronic ignition.
I don't have A/C in my '68, and I never miss it. When the Vette comes out, the top is down. This might not work as well in Hawaii as is does in NJ, it's a little warmer in the Pacific
I'll betcha the reserve is set at at least $30K. Interesting about the distributor that's not in the car that he claims is original that isn't--makes me wonder about the rest of his claims.
The one pic looks nice, but one pic only? I didnt understand the exhaust explanation.... Side headers? but no side exhaust. I think it would be crazy to bid on the car without having it inspected. I cant see even paying $18-20k for the car sight unseen because you think a "RARE" 427/435 68 is worth at least $25-30k.. MJ
i guess you would be the one to ask. the ebay ad says its a 427/435 tripower, i was under the impression that the 435 was not tripower, the 400 (L68) and 430 (L88) were tripower. is this correct?
Aloha from the other side of the island! That looks like a very nice car. Good luck. Have you gone to the Wendys car show in Kapolei or the Windward mall car show before?

The ad is correct; the 400hp (L68) and the 435s (L71 & L89) were tri-power cars. The 430hp (factory under-rated L88) had the single Holley 850 DP with the taller hood. There are also several 68 only parts to be aware of if they are missing or have been replaced with 69+ replacements or repros. Be careful and have someone local from this forum who knows BB cars (preferably an NCRS person) to check it out and drive it if you are serious. That way, you know what you are paying for since some of the seller's info is already questionable. Good luck
I think it is bizarre that they do not list which one it is (L71 / L89). Would it be "lying" if you had a 427/400 that was rebuilt and had 435hp now and you listed it as a 427 with 435 hp? I didn't think you could get the L71/L89 with A/C either, but I am no expert.

Mark, there's a link named "click here for picture gallery" that will show you the rest of the pictures.
You can see the sidepipe headers sticking out the side of the car, but the actual sidepipes are missing. Wierd. Imagine coming out to a parking lot and finding your sidepipes gone!
Nice looking car. Looks fairly original except the Hookers run under the rocker panel. Interior has correct wheel, console, radio *****, etc. If it's an original motor car, I'll bet it goes for well over 30K +/-. I certainly would never buy a car sight unseen, and would look this over carefully, check the frame, check the body panels, etc. Chuck
