Default Balancer Install Question

Hello. I am in the process of installing the harmonic balancer onto my also new GM crate engine. I am using my home made tool, which has never failed to work properly, but I might have an issue. It gets to a point where it seems to not go any more on, no matter how much force I apply. I have even taken it off and then put it back on with more oil applied to it. Is this fully seated? Is there a way for me to check?

There's my thumb for scale. It seems to be pretty close to the amount the old engine's was on.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Will

Take off the balancer. Measure from the seal to the end of the crank inside towards the rear. Then transfer that distance to the balancer use a sharpie pen and reinstall see how far it goes in. I think the balancer will stop when it bottoms out on the crank.

Not sure if this is as accurate but I just used my caliper to check the distance from the timing cover to the balancer on the old engine compared to the new engine and it seems the new engine is actually a tad closer than the old. Also the exposed balancer seal area is about the same for each. I think it is good to go. Is there any other measurement that would be a big indication that it isnt in enough? I've installed many balancers before, but I just want to confirm because it just seems out but I guess it's actually not.

I can take off the balancer again if I need to but tell me what you think of the measurements I took.

I'm sorry I think I have it backwards. measure the end of the balancer to inside towards the front and transfer to the crank. I think the balancer will bottom out on the end of the crank. Sorry it's been awhile since I built my motor.

This how I would word it, but it actually it is the crank timing gear. It doesn't always end up all the way in though. I've backed it out before to line up the crank and water pump pulley's

Just checked from the front of the balancer to the inside end of the crank on both and it matches perfectly. I'll use the pulley method to check as well. I *think* it's perfect I'm just being extra cautious because this is a brand new motor with brand new everything haha

Thanks,
Will
