Default Carburetor problems/81 Corvette

I replaced my old carburetor and intake on my 81 Corvette with a new high rise aluminum intake which has 2 long holes instead of 4 small round ones and a new Edelbrock 600 carb., now it floods out and quits...when I accelerate it has a hesitation. Should I have used an adapter?

did you replace the distributor with a non-computer controlled version?? if not then that can be some of your issue.

What have you done so far to try to fix it?

I don't know what you mean by two long ones instead of four small round ones.

The intake has to be spreadbore or square bore, dual plane or single plane.

The stock setup was spreadbore and a quadrajet.

Is your Edelbrock square bore and your intake square bore?

More info is needed. Intake model number would help. Edle carbs dont like high fuel presure. Stock mechanical fuel pumps can put out 7psi+. Edle carbs work best under 5psi fuel presure. You could have a choke issue, or a host of other things, vacuum leak, timing ect. How did the engine run before the swap? You need to give the forum more info and Im sure someone can advise.

I think he means an intake like this:

Two long holes, get it?

So, you haven't done anything to the carb, like set the idle mixture screws, or the choke, or the float level, or anything? It sounds like the carb may just need to be tuned. If you don't know the first thing about carbs, you've got a pretty good learning curve in front of you, or else you'll have a lighter wallet from getting someone else to do it for you. Unless you've got some buds who know there way around a carb, but your post makes it sound like you're on your own. This is as good a place as any to start, I suppose:

It also helps a lot if you really understand how a carb works, and this article, and the video about half way down the page, are pretty good for that:

Good luck. It may take awhile, but don't get discouraged.
