Block drain bolts frozen????
It's on my BB. There are two bolts, about in the middle of each side of the block. Someone said these are the block drains??
I thought the machine shop woulda removed them but they left them in. Evidently they could tell I had tried removing them without luck. My question is, should I make an issue of this and continue to try to remove them? The threads seem to be rusted solid to the block. I know if I proceed, I end up snapping them both off.
Those are not bolts - they're tapered pipe plugs. The only smart way to remove them if they're stuck is to hit them with a HOT acetylene flame until they just turn red - then they'll spin out easily with vice grips. Do NOT use a propane torch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The flame isn't hot enough to heat the plug quickly and you will end up heating the block - possibly enough to crystalize the cast iron, making it brittle.

Re: Block drain bolts frozen???? (MikeC)
BB progress is going slow. I doubt this summer. I'm having the pistons pressed on now. Then I need to get a flywheel & have the rotating assembly balanced. $$$ I'm trying to pace the shop work out so it's not such a sting on my wife's purse.
I got the block from the shop last week & have just begun cleaning the tiny metal shavings. Then I just discovered that my Stand needs a new H-pip with CATS. That'll set me back a little too.
I'm gonna just take my time. I'm on no real time table. Fall would be good, but spring won't upset me either. Quality takes time.
I would try and get them pulled then. no sense having two chewed up pipe plugs in a beautiful new block!
Plus then if you have to drain the water out of the block, You'll be able to do it easily. Personally I love using the block drains when flushing my cooling system.
