Cam Swap Question???
Doing my cam swap i set the engine to TDC before taking everything apart. That is TDC on the compression stroke. (both valves closed). Took the old cam out, dowel pin at the 9 o clock position. NO DOT to be found. Put new cam in with dowel pin in 9 o clock position. Now I have the dot at 12 o clock on both gears. Is this correct? All the manuals I have show the dots at 6 and 12, so that they are close together, but that is at TDC on the exhaust. Just want to make sure I dont fuzork anything up. Thanks. :eek:

Mine also had both dots at 12:00. Put it back that way and you wont have any problems. If you put it at 6:00 and 12:00 your distributor will be 180 out. Been there done that. Good Luck

actually, you will notice if you spun the crank over exactly one revolution, your dots would line up at 6 and 12 o'clock. piston would still be at TDC and you have your cam aligned. cam turns one revolution for every two crank revolutions so every other crank revolution the cam is essitially 180* out of phase. it's the only way a four stroke, pushrod motor will work. you can leave it as is but just drop your distributor 180* out if you do. :chevy :cheers:
