Anyone put a bottom drain plug in an '80 or other MY differential with an aluminum case? I was all set to do the job when I saw a comment that because the case on my car was made of aluminum the plug would strip the threads over time. Anyone had this problem? After all, there is already a drain plug in the differential (just in a PIA location).
Thanks

Its been done many times. There has been more Corvettes built with Aluminum cases than Iron and yet people are still afraid of them. I suppose we could go back to Iron Transmission cases to keep them from stripping out to.
you will probably change the fluid every 30k ,so you won't be loosening and tightening alot .just don't over torque it .start with a small threaded plug.use sealant on it .
I just talked to Gus at Corvette Central and he said that their differential drain plug kit will not work on a 1980 differential because it is aluminum. They list the kit as working on 1963 to 1979 MYs.
