The wiper door on my 68 Vette has been missing some bolts for some time now but I finally found the time to make some new ones and fasten the door tightly. Now, the door does not shut flush with the body. The passenger side is up about 1/4 inch while the driver side sits down about 1/4 inch from the fenders. Can someone tell me how to adjust this?
If I remember correctly, there are 2 bolts on each end that hold the whole "assembly" in - if you loosen them, you have some "up and down" movement on each end I believe that should do it.
does the grill fit flush with the hood? if not, the entire wiper transmission can be adjusted by loosening the mounting bolts(#10 nuts) that are on each end and on the support bar and where the push rod passes through the cowl. but it may be binding, or even hitting the wiper blades. check carefully for any contact before doing anything major.
PWS69 - I am assuming that you are talking about the bolt ends that stick through the firewall, 2 (rather small) vertical bolt ends on each extreme side of the car?
JNB5101 - The grill in front of the wiper door fits nicely. What you are suggesting would move the entire assembly including the grill right?
Roco71 - Are you speaking of the same bolts mentioned above by PWS?
I've been looking around. Is this (AIM) something I can find on this forum or do I need to look at Willcox or other Corvette guru suppliers?
AIMs are sold by most of the aftermarket providers. Willcox has them. You can get them in two different formats: hard copy paper punched to fit a three ring binder (my personal choice) or in CD format. If you want CD, my advice would be to select one in searchable format.
If the grill is sitting nicely and the door is up, the door may just not be going all the way down in the closed position.
Check to see if it's hitting the wiper arms (frequently set wrong or have thicker (newer) blades installed.
With the door open, slide a piece of paper under the door in the center, up to the grill and close the door, move it from side to side and see if it gets caught. Watch, there is a center bracket that supports the middle of the grill only (same style as the two on the ends that hold teh entire assy.
There is an adjuster nut on the linkage between the vac-can and the door, (inside the rubber boot) that may be out also and not pulling hte door fully closed
