Default Dumb exhaust question

78, auto. Had true duals which are now off. Car is 350 with headers. I have headers, X-pipe and mufflers. Need to get an exhaust on the car so I can tune the car (very rich, burning my eyes). Can't run open headers without the neighbors getting upset. Would a call to CC be in order or are there simpler sloutions until I can get on the road and have a shop build a set.

Join AAA, have the car towed to a muffler shop.

Ya know, years ago, (late 80's) I was building a Roadrunner, had the headers installed, but needed a shop to do the exhaust. Called the local police department, and said "Hey, I have a car with open headers, I need to take it to the muffler shop to have the exhaust installed, is it ok with you guys if I just drive it down there, just this one time? I promise I'll take it easy." They said "Yeah, sure, go ahead, as long as it's just this one time." Not sure if the cops will let you get away with that kind of thing nowadays, but it's worth making a phone call to find out, right? Just be up front and honest with them, sometimes they really appreciate that, and will give you a break. Worst they can do is say no, right?

I had mine towed to the exhaust shop only to find out the guy did not have a working bender (after telling me on the phone he could do the work!!!). I had to then drive it over to another place that was luckily only a few miles away. I lucked out, though, because there was a car show going on that day so the cops didn't really care. If only I could have captured the look on this poor old ladies face when I began to accelerate at the stop light...priceless.
