I loved the look of my chrome header sidepipes, slowly but surely tho they started to deteriorate, turning blue near the heads and the rest a nice shade of gold :rolleyes:rusting between the tubes where the chrome was thin etc. I highly recommend the sterling finish from Jet-Hot
I full second yellow 72. I bought the chrome ones and now that they are turning blue I wish I would have bought the plain jane ones and hat them jet hot coated. Much tougher finish. Cheers
Ditto on the ceramic coating. Even with the coating you have to take care of them, it's just easier. I had them for a couple years as a daily driver and it became a pain to keep clean in bad weather-like when it rains every stinking day for 3 months, right behind the front tire where the pipes come together is where you have to pay attention to the most. But you can't beat the look and sound of them.

Re: Hooker Sidepipes (GrandSportC3)
You can order the headers directly from Jet-hot & save $$. They quoted me $1075 for my BB, coated & delvered to my home! I'm thinking of possibly having them coated in a white color similar to what 67Heaven. It has more of that "road-racer" look. We'll see.

Re: Hooker Sidepipes (Cory1970)
You'd better call them or e-mail them. The price I e-mailed you was for $1075 but that was for a BB without the muffler inserts. I'm going to use JCL spirals.
Here's a copy of the e-mail I sent for my SB:
Len,
Yes, we do have Pre-coated sidepipe systems for Corvettes. As you would expect they are coated inside & out with our Sterling finish, and carry a lifetime warranty. This set comes with headers, sidetubes & mufflers - your choice of reverse flow or glasspack style.
Price is $1175 for a small block set(big block $1225), and that includes bolts, gaskets and shipping within the 48 states via FedEx ground.
This is NOT what you would buy from Summit, Jegs, etc. Hedman & Flowtech don’t coat the insides of the pipes. Hooker’s internal coating is merely a line of sight spray down the first few inches of the primary tubes. Which is why their warranty is only a year.
Our coating is expected to lower under-hood temperatures by 40 degrees, keeps the pipes 25% cooler and get you 1-3% extra horsepower. Of course, it's highly rust resistant as well - 140x better than paint. Because of that we expect it to increase part life be 10x or more.
If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me line.
I had mine plated at Custom Chrome plating in Grafton, Ohio. Known the owner, Jon Wright for a ton of years. He said that because of the layout of the tubes around the collector, it will always rust in that area. The "current" does not draw down into that tight place, hence the plating will not cover all the bare metal. BUT. He did say to shoot some WD-40 into the star areas, after it cools, and wipe it out as much as possible. It will DELAY the rust procees, but not eliminate it. JCL :yesnod: :yesnod: "Have baffles. Will travel".
Nice wheel by the way.... did you have to use wheel spacers. What size are your wheel and tire combo. Are your hooker sidepipes jet hot coated in the picture?
one thing is that they do rust but the worst thing that rusts is the pipe from the inside out i'm not sure how to combat this problem. but the Headers them selves rust between the pipes like others have mentioned.
I had removed them from My 79 Vette and sent them away to get re-chromed but when they striped the old chrome away from the pipe there was nothing left so at the time I had no money and had to settle for normal exhaust. so the headers sat for 10 years in my garage with no chrome or any thing on them and after a quick sand blast ( surface rust only) they were ready for coating. And now they are on my 76. So to make a long story longer what ever alloy the header is made of is very resilint.
