All C3's are called "sharks" or "shark years", sameway as C2 is called "mid years" and C1 is "early years". Mako Shark II was prototype which gave the curves to C3 Corvette.

I think the Mako Shark was actually designed in around 1961-62 which had more C2 lines. Then there was the "Manta Ray" . It is a GM concept car that looks much like our C3's. That car was on display at Ecklers reunion a few yeas ago. Once you see the Manta Ray you will, "stingray" will seem like a good choice of names.

Mako Shark was introduced 1961 and it looked pretty much like C2 vette. Mako Shark II was introduced 1965 and it was the C3 concept. At least according to Corvettemuseum.com Corvette timeline Mantaray was introduced 1969 and it was remolded Mako Shark II.

I did not know when the Manta Ray was built... I does look very similar to C3's ... I like it. The interior is a lot different though. The museum has seveal concept cars there but I don't think the Mako II is there.
