Default intake manifold swap

I would like to "simplify" the look of my '77 under the hood.

I am considering an intake swap to eliminate the EGR and get a bit more performance (a new carb may go along with the new intake as well)...

I know I need vacuum ports for the brakes, the transmission, and the headlights. What else would I need vacuum fittings for (that runs on vacuum)?

You should get a '77 AIM. That will show you where everything goes.

That's about it. Everything else comes off the carb. Actually brakes come off carb too. I have the edelbrock 2101 performer on my 77. Got rid of all the smog stuff. Keep the q-jet and rebuild it using Cliff Ruggles' book. I did mine and it runs great.

a simplified look and still retain the q jet would be a performer.

I have always been a Holley Guy (on my '67 Camaro)...but I can see the benefits of the Q-jet that is on the Vette as it is...very smooth start and great throttle response...

I am not familiar with the "smog stuff" as my other car never had it to contend with!

Any hood clearance problems with the new intake...leaning toward the 2101...still possible to go with a square bore and a Holley 650DP I have on the shelf...

Or a Weiand 8004; better low rpm throttle response than the Performer, especially with a stock or near stock cam and exhaust.

All vacuum comes off the carb except for one fitting that connect to the headlights, etc. and to the auto transmission depending on which one you have. It is the one between the distributor and the carb. Just reuse it on the replacement manifold.

Is the intake on the '77 aluminum or cast iron?

Could I just buy an EGR block off plate, and call it good?

Also, not sure if the intake is original (it sure looks liek it), but it has the intake runners numbered--is that legit on a GM intake?

The right Performer will have not have the provisions for EGR. You could also get a block-off plate for your original intake. GM did use numbered runners, but not on all intakes. Not sure when that started.
