Not true.
I have Comp Cams 1.6 roller-tip rockers on my stock '73 L-48 and they work great.
If your heads have vertical oval ports for the pushrods you won't have a problem.
Now, if you want to use the stock valve covers, you can't use the full 1.6 roller rockers w/o a thicker gasket or aftermarket covers. The 1.6 roller tip rockers fit fine, but you don't gain the advantage of the friction loss that full roller-rockers provide.
I was very pleased with the SOTP improvement vs. the cost and installation time.
