Can anyone make a good recomendation for a shop to have a motor for a 1978 Pace Car rebuilt, in the New Jersey area (I'm near Great Adventure in the Jackson area)... and any sugestions as to what all to have done and replaced... Engine is curently all orginal #'s matching and would like to keep it that way...no real problems with motor...but want it fresh....and reliable....
Thanks
Rogers speed shop in Cranford, did a nice job on my friends 71 motor last month after a clock replacement turned into an engine rebuild. They will answer any questions and the numbers were not touched. Good luck.
I have always done my own engine work. I work with a local machine shop who builds race engines for the machine work. They do excellent work. Are you looking for someone to do the whole project? Or just the machine work.
My buddy had his clock replaced, and in doing so the oil line to the pressure gauge unknowingly broke. Sadly he kept driving with a 0 reading on the gauge while the oil was being pumped down the radio and under the carpet.
Rodgers is in Garwood NJ
BBC in Rahway/ Linden Nj
Franks in south river if he's still there after sandy?
I also have a retired guy that's doing body work for me in Englishtown but he takes his time but the price is right
I'm a retired guy who does engines also and I live in Bridgewater NJ
I worked at Mac Boring through the 80s before they closed up the machine shop....(EPA ***** pretty much shut us down!)
How about Medford Speed right off the Red Lion circle at Rt. 206 and Rt.70. Jerry Glenn Jr. has been building street, drag and circle track motors for 30-40 years. They did a lot of machine work for me and even built me a 350 dirt sportsman engine in the past.
I guess the first question a builder would ask is, how many miles are on the motor and what do you expect from the motor?
From there you can choose a build.
If its low miles and good oil pressure, you can get away with a set of heads to pick up some 30-40 hp. If your over 80k I would recommend a timing chain to go with the heads.
Of course this is assuming you are budget minded. It not, you can easily be over $1000 in machine shop work alone.
