Need backup and tail light sockets.....help PLEASE
Hello Vetteheads, I have bad grounds within one backup light and one tail light socket. Where can I go to get each one? I only need the sockerts not the lense. They do not have to be new, but they do have to work, any assistance would once again be appreciated. Thank You.

Bond007, good luck. I had the same issue. You can't buy them through the catalogs. I had one mechanic tell me to search junk yards. I tried another mechanic (with more Corvette experience) tell me it was a bad ground and fixed it for me. Not sure what he did. I assume, if you find the ground, you can replace the ground wire between the socket and the ground point. What ever he did, it didn't take him long and he didn't charge me anything.

Thanks Zach, Yeah the problem is in the socket itself would have to crack it open to fix then glue it back if I could. Tried the local junkyard may have to contact some national salvage yards.
Re: Need backup and tail light sockets.....help PLEASE (Bond007)
Sir,
The 74-82 tail and back up lamp bulb sockets are a separate receptacle that simply twists into the plastic lamp housing. Normally these bulb receptacles are part of the rear lamp wiring harness, however I have seen them available separately, which requires a splice into the harness. If you had a 53-73 it would require changing the entire lamp housing as the socket does not detatch.

Re: Need backup and tail light sockets.....help PLEASE (Doc Rebuild)
Building on what Geoffrey has stated, for the later C3s they are standard GM sockets. Here is what I used when I converted to four tailights. I used scotch locks to hook into the existing wiring so the harness remains intact. Including the back-up wiring, now held to the main harness by a nylon tie. This unit (~$5.00) came from Canadian Tire; our version of Autozone/Pep Boys.
