I am in the process of installing the Borgeson p/s setup. While collapsing my steering column the lower bearing collapsed as well. So I pulled my steering column to replace upper and lower bearings and do some other minor upgrades. While researching to purchase the bearings I found several Jeep suppliers with what looks like the same lower bearing setup for about half the price of the vette. Can anyone confirm if these are the same as the corvette? Due to impatience I've already ordered the bearings from corvette central but I am curious for future needs if the jeep parts would work?
Saginaw Steering Gear manufactured many, many steering parts for GM and Chrysler. Saginaw was also very good at standardizing components such as tilt mechanisms, lower bearings, etc between all fo their steering parts.
You didn't mention what year Jeep steering column or the year of your Corvette. So IF Saginaw happened to manufacture a Jeep steering column around the same year as your Corvette, very possibly the lower bearing area would have used the same parts. And it certainly is true that you pay for the Corvette named parts over those lowly Jeep parts (even though they might be the same).
I don't have any steering column information on Jeep so I can't confirm if Saginaw made Jeep steering columns or not.
