For over a year now I have felt that my '79 has run hot. Maybe not overheating, but usually kept around 220 or so (on the temp gauge). Soooo it being the original, I swapped out the L48 rad for a new L82 size one and replaced the upper and lower hoses several months ago...no avail, still ran in the 220 range. I simply figured that my gauge was off so I borrowed a buddy's temp tester. (Cool item...looks like a laser gun....point at what you want temp of and gives digital readout) Nope..determined that my gauge was just about right on (7 degree's off). I resigned myself to simply thinking there was nothing I could do so for one last shot, I put a 165* thermostat in and PRESTO....my temp stays at about 160-180 all the time. We recently had a little 'heat wave' up here last week and I ran her on the highway with the AC on and never jumped over 200 the entire 20min ride. EXCELLENT!!! Is this the solution for everyone? I doubt it, but I wanted to pass along my findings. It is SOOOO nice to take the vette out for a ride and not STARE at the temp gauge and pray that it isn't going any higher. (You all know what I am talking about...the 'TEMP GAUGE STARE') Just thought this may help someone out. :D

Re: Overheat solution (Jons79)
Congrats !!
I am glad yours was an easy fix.
For us here in AZ, we need to change the T-Stat on the outside weather from a 110+ to about a 85 or 90. That will take care of all our problems and let us leave the t-tops at home !!
