My AC was completely empty, so I put in one of those R134a kits with the oil. Last summer my AC worked great and when I would chack the hoses after I turn the car off the low pressure one was always cold to the touch. But now I get air that isn't nearly as cold as before, and the low pressure pipe is slightly warm, (everything else in the engine compartment is really hot) The compressor appears to be working correctly and I still have plenty of pressure left in the system, is there anything I need to adjust?
Ben my engine builder released my freon and is not EPA certified nor will he return the A/C to the working condition that it was in when I drove the car in. What are the steps to charge the freon and where did you get it? As far as I know in California it is not available to the public.

Re: R134a Conversion (Ben Taylor)
I found the web-site below while looking for a condenser for my '80. It is stated that to properly convert to 134-A approimatly 25% more condenser capacity is required. This company claims to accomplish this with their hi capacity condensor. The 30.5" X 15" for $81.00 looks close to the Corvette size to me and is really pretty reasonable in price. I'm going to order one for my car. JIM

Anyone can buy R134a but not R12. You must have a vacuum pump and gauges at the least to correctly charge your system. There is a lot of good info on line about doing A/C work. Do yourself a favor and research the topic so you won't get ripped off and pay too much for service. Even if you don't do the work it is to your benefit to know about it.
