A UK Slant on Radiator Replacement

The rad sprang a tiny leak on the way down to Le Mans this year. A couple of bottles of "Radweld" and releasing the LevRvent cap seemed to cure it, but infact it was still weeping, the level dropping to the hole, which was thankfully at the top of the radiator. It just meant adding a pint or two each evening. Still did a lap of the circuit on Saturday morning with 45 other Vettes, though! Met Dave Hill, chatted with Oliver Gavin......
But I digress!! Got home and took the rad out and up to my local repair chappy. Too far gone for a repair, so he said he'd put a new core in. When I collected it, it was a thin core, fitted to the old tanks. The new core was about half the thinkness of the old one (front to back). "That's not going to work" says I. "No problem" says he. "Its constructed like all modern rads, more efficient core design, the manufafturers lists it for the Vette".
Hmmmmm. Well, it's much lighter and therefore easier to fit in thye car (a small problem with the thinkness of the flange, but nothing too major). A lot less water capacity as well.
First run was to our Corvette Nationals. Nice sunny warm day. Oh Oh! Quickish run around the M25 (the UK's most infamous road!) The inevitable congestion. But, temp gauge is behaving. Another run back home in traffic, and gauge still OK. Checked water level on return and all OK.
Maybe this new rad will be a revalation? At £150 it was a good deal cheaper than an "original" style, or a four row.
If it explodes in a few months I'll be sure to let you all know!
Stephen
