Maybe this wont help you but i moved my alternator to the right hand side of the engine.
This was made possible since im running av electric Meziere waterpump and Moroso had a bracket that fitted. On can rotate the bracket if one wants the alternator on the drivers side of the engine but i have the power steering pump on that side.
However i find it nice to get the alternator down and away a bit.

The alternator is an aftermarket thing that produces 40Ah.
There also exist one the same size that produces 130Ah.
I bought mine here in Sweden for the equivalent of about 250usd.

Got headers? Makes it simple for either side. But the brackets will also work with stock rams horns.

Had a stock big block set up on my 68 and didn't like it.

Kept the brackets and pulleys simple on my 77.

The factory brackets for just about anything except a Corvette places the alternator on the passenger side. It is a bracket that looks like the one that is shown in diehrd's pictures. It isn't so attractive on a small block but the setup exists. One of my 77's has a later engine in it and it uses that setup. Yes, I am changing it to the correct Corvette backets and moving it back where it belongs. Looks odd otherwise.
