Hey Guys,
I thought I had a broken motor mount, but it turns out that the bolt that goes into the block wont tighten up.
Is this something I should try to fix myself, heli coil maybe?
thanks!
- Jay
It has been my experience with motor mounts that the plate has to be perfectly aligned. Sometimes you have to loosen maybe the other 2 and remove the frame bolt to get them to line up
If your bolt in question is the correct length, not stripped, and the motor is in the car it would be very difficult to drill and tap it for a helicoil
If your motor is out it is easy.
The drivers side experiences the most TQ and needs all three the passenger side is not so important
to be completely honest, I made my step son go under the car the replace the mount, I am reporting what he told me. I should probably get off my lazy butt go take a look for myself.
thanks

*grin* I've been there.
I remember the first time I heard from under the car "The 9/16ths won't fit...it must be metric!"
Update:
The threads in the block are not striped after all.
There was a washer missing on the lower bolt that goes through a cylindrical hole in the motor mount. With out the washer in place the bolt head was wedged against the rubber so I couldn't get the socket on the head. Because I was pushing the socket against the rubber I could feel resistance, which felt like the bolt was turning.
