I'm setting my timing per Lars. The only Advance Curve Kit I could find around here is a Mr. Gasket #929G. There are three sets of springs, black (the softest), Silver (medium), and Gold (the stiffest). Which set of springs, or combination of, should I start with?
I could have sworn in one of Lar's documents he stated the Gold set, but no matter which are you using a dial back light? Look at post #10 by Lars in this link

Yes, I have a dial back light. Edelbrock E-Street heads, XE268H cam, performer intake - stock distributer. Just curious as to what springs everyone used to get them were they wanted to be - I'd like to get as close as I can with one stab at it - lol.
I have a small block with Performer heads, Performer intake, and the same xe268h cam also. My distributor is HEI and I started with the weakest springs and never changed to anything stiffer. I think mine comes all in around 1850 -2000 rpms. Good or bad, thats where I left it.
One problem with really light springs is that the distributor might begin to advance at idle speeds. I believe you address that by either swapping in stiffer springs or making the weights lighter.
Thanks all - I actually started in the middle - using the silver springs from the Mr. Gasket #929G kit. All in by 2700 and the car really came alive. Gonna just leave it there and enjoy this thing.
