Removing the trim without damaging it can be difficult, especially if it wasn't installed propperly - it should pry off, but if someone in the past used adheasive to hold it on, it can be difficult to remove. You might want to consider taking it to a glass shop, and have them remove it, I don't think it would cost very much. My guess would be around $50.
time to update the profile.
I use a BFH to remove it.
Actually don't have vette anymore have a 97 LT1 camaro, Just sold a hardtop to a guy in australia and he doesn't need the glass, so that is why they question.
My .02: ship it with the glass in it and let the buyer fool with it.
Down side is he wants to widen the top for a custom project and it is a date coded glass for a 71 "UT" I think is the code so he doesn't need the window.
Used a small flat edge screw driver and broke the seal is all.
What about getting the chrome pieces off without damaging them.
How did you do that?
I just bought a top that is date coded right for my '68. The top and chrome is great, but the seal is bad and I would like to replace it, but fear damaging the chrome which is near not replacable or replacement affordable.

Are you talking about the trim around the rear window? If so, it is removed by gently trying it off. It is pretty easy to damage. If I was you, I would take the hardtop to a glass shop, and let them deal with the trim, and reseal the window. If I had to guess, I would think that having them do everything should cost about $100.
When I repainted my hardtop, I had removed the trim and window. I didn't want it to leak, so when I was done, I took it to a glass shop, and they installed the window, and trim, and it cost me $50.

same screw driver, just scrape widow sealer off outside of the widow and then work the screwdriver like a chisel between glass and fiberglass top and window will pop right out. took me a 45 minutes

When you replace the glass and you put the new seal on it does it slip into the top easily and how does the chrome go back on? Adhesive or ?
