Default Motor Mounts

Hey all,

I'm going to be replacing the motor mounts in my 79 L82. Does anyone have any adivce or hints that I should know about? Also does anyone have any suggestions as to what mounts I should use? I'm thinking about these Urethane motor mounts that Ecklers has, they seem pretty nice. Thanks for any advice and input.

Nate :)

Energy Suspension poly mounts, probably the same thing Ecklers sells. Don't have any tips for doing it with the motor in the car, changed mine on an engine swap.

You can probably get them cheaper through Summit.

I just did this a month ago. The energy suspension poly motor mount kit came with almost all the hardware, and included the trans mount too. Was about $80.00 from Summit. I put a 6X6 block on a floor jack, and lifted the entire engine just a fuzz from under the deep forward portion of the stock oil pan. (under the drain plug) Don't tighten any of the bolts that go into the block, untill they are all finger started. Some kind of punch or lining bar helps line up all the block bolt holes too. I had to reuse the old grade 8 (long) bolt that connects the two mount portions cause that's the only one missing from the kit. I also used stainless for the block bolts instead of the supplied steel. My exhaust was removed too, so it was easy. My motor puts out much more torque than stock... and when I rev it.... it doesn't budge. Hope I've helped....

I use solid mounts on my 454.
I broke the ones that came with the car and I bought the (so called) Heavy Duty ones from Ecklers and one broke within a month - They were installed correctly with spacers - I feel no difference in vibrations, and I know they won't snap. They are made by Moroso.
I even put a pair in our 65 Impala SS (sold it) and 72 Camaro (350).
If your running a fat bumpstick you will feel some vibration increase but not much. I have a .500 lift cam in the 454 - no problems.

STW!

I used the Energy Suspension poly mounts and had no problems with them. They are A good product and I like them :D . The only thing I did not expect was the dynomax header on the pas. side had to be removed to take out the long bolt. After that it all went good.
