I have the factory 3.08's in my car right now and I'm wondering if i should switch to 3.55 or 3.73. I don't do alot of highway driving, mostly just crusing around town and plan to go to the track a few times this year. What should i get?
Now correct me if I am way wrong on this but.....
3.73 will not fit the pumpkin in C3's.
You mean....3.70's

I don't think you'd be unhappy with either. The 3.55's are better on the highway, but still great around town. The 3.73's are better on the street, but affect the fuel mileage on the highway. Personally, I wouldn't go with any numeric ratio higher or lower than these two options. My next move will be to convert to a 700R4
3.55:1 is the best all around ratio. Good off the line and good for speeds over 55mph. I went with 3.55 to make the highway trips fun and save a little gas. I'm happy with the choice. I can smoke em off the line and run with em on the highway.
W/the mild XE262 cam get the 3:55s. If you get a cam w/less low end go 3:70. If you are going to have strong low end power, might as well use it! The gears make up for lack of low end that gets you off the line.
Since your probably going to get some kind of OD tranny some day you might as well gether the correct rearend now. 3.90 I went with 4.11 14 or so years ago and it works OK and I never hit red line in drive in the 1/4 mile. Redline in my 1-1 third gear is @130 mph But 3.90 is a better choice. Or if your thinking about no OD and a 4 or 5 speed 2.73 is the best choice
