When I put my vette in drive mostly but can do it in reverse in clunks and looks as though the rear may end lifts up or drop down if reverse.
It's not u joints(new) quite loud sounding.
Trying to sell this one for cash to work on my 78, and lost a sale today because of it. Is it possible to be yoke? or WHAT?
System is factory V8 HD350 and factory rear end. HELP
Aside from that, since your u joints are new, Id check mounting locations...
Check trans mount
Check front differential mount
Check front differential mount bracket bolts
Check differential upper mount bracket bolts
U joint cap/strap bolts
Shock mounts
Check condition of differential cover where spring mounts.

Reason: Add info
Differential front mount cushion, or "snubber", look there first and I bet the bushings and / or bolt / nut are either in rough shape or gone completely. If not that, look at the other stuff in Dave's list.

I did check this this a while back. Looked to me it was dropping down when put in gear. I tightened it but didn't fix the problem but I will address again just in case.
Thanks
Could be the bushing in there, if you've already tightened the bolt. Check the condition of it. If it is really old if could be getting sloppy.
The bolt for the mount in my 70 came right out on the road once...didn't notice until I hammered it in second gear. That was a loud bang, tell you that for free.
Get a fresh set of rubber bushings for the front diff mount. When you take it apart, notice how everything fits. Or take a caeful look at the AIM. It's easy to put it back together wrong.
