Engine motion against mounts
I noticed today that punching the gas while my car is in neutral causes the engine to rotate considerably. The top of the air filter moves maybe half an inch for a quick half-3/4 throttle jolt. Is this normal, or do I need better engine mounts (I haven't tried tightening them up yet)? As far as I know, my engine is a mostly-stock 74 L82 with exhaust mods. The previous owner had a lot of components on receipts, but it looks like he took out most of it before selling the car (can't say what he did during the engine rebuild though).

During my engine build, someone suggested changing the motor mounts. Good thing I did, cause the old ones looked good, but when I pulled them out.. the rubber between the two steel plates was cracked almost all the way across. Sounds like yours might be starting to go. I replaced mine with Energy Suspension Poly mounts, and now the engine doesn't budge. Kit came with trans mount too. $80 from Summit.
