I get that performance with 225rwhp/290rwtq. The low-end torque is what gets you the tire smokin' performance off the line.

I'd take that number with a big grain of salt.

IMHO, first step would be to pull the valve cover and find out exactly what you have for heads. Then spend $300 on a good chassis dyno tune and see where you're at.

Yes 350hp at the wheels can be almost 475hp gross. Thats quite a build for even an experienced builder. Requires good heads, big cam, high compression, stroker crankshaft. Since GM doesnt sell a small block that powerful u would need a engine builder with good reputation. Golan engines and TPIS are 2 that I can think of but not for tight budgets. They have been in business making and selling performance sb chevys for decades.

Good luck,

When it comes to performance engines, Horsepower =Money spent .. If you want power ,its gonna cost. If you want alot of power, is gonna cost a lot. Theres no way around that... But ,. the end usually justifies the means, the big smile on your face, the first time you turn it loose..well, that's priceless!!

I run a ZZ4 crate motor in my wifes 78. It has the stock intake and stock 58cc aluminum heads and I use the stock hood. To get a bit more power I went with the GM hot cam and 1.6 rockers. For the extra cost I could have/should have just gone with the 383... Pretty well everything just bolted right up with no surprises.

How many miles on eng? Any problems?

IMHO if your less than 200k mi just go for the heads and tune. Heck even paying a shop to install heads would be cheaper than 350hp crate.

FYI the L82 comes with performance cam, forged pistons and forged crankshaft. If your seals are leaky then just get them replaced. Dont make it harder and more expensive than it needs to be.

Hope this helps,

This is a short of what I know my L-82 has
RHS pro actionheads,180 intake port. Holly carb
Comp Cam xe 262 extreme energy, 462 intake lift and 469 exhaust lift.
1.6 comp cams roller tip rocker arms
Bowtie overdrive transmission 2004r stage 2
Hedman Headers
