I bought new spring both front and rear and the new springs are about 4 inches shorter than the 40 year old springs. I bought 550 pound per inch Gymakana...Could that be the reason for the shorter spring height?

That is normal. The aftermarket springs are shorter. Those 550s will be quite firm
