How do you get the center radio/gauge bezel out of an 80. It looks like four screws and plus two under the shifter console. I have all six out but the bezel still does not want to come out. And the gauges seem to want to come with it when I pull. What am I doing wrong. My AIM is not any help.
My 81had just what you described. 4 visible ones. 2 on each side and 2 under the bottom that makes 6. Also the gauges will come out with the bezel as they are attatched so you have to unplugthem in theback and also make sure if you have a radio already in that it's not mounted to the bracketon each side but you should be able to see if it is. Good luck and don't get frustrated and break something. I know I get that way myself.
i was real close to taking mine to the shop to get it out, but if you use gental force, it'll come. i left a pretty good size scratch on the shifter console in the process though, so you may want to take that out first.
On a 79 both of the radio shafts are fastened to that bezel with threaded, round nuts that have to be removed. Mine had notches on them that could be reached with needle nose pliers and slowly removed. Also, there is the HVAC control panel light socket that is mounted at the top-center of your bezel and it WILL snag your dash top and RIP it if you aren't careful. It is easier in the long run to remove the console side panels and move the shifter console rearward to get it out of harm's way. You may want to remove the glove box as well (only 6 screws) so you can better see what you're doing. Don't forget to disconnect your battery! Once you get the bezel "worked" loose it will pull out just a short distance and you can reach the harness plug at the printed circuit center. I believe you squeeze the side tabs to release it. At reinstallation make sure that center AC duct fits into the vent area of the bezel. Piece of cake after that. Just take your time and go easy. Good luck.
