Oh good, someone else brought this up so I won't have to (any of you Sr. members getting tired of answering "the tire question"?) :smash:
I'll probably slap some new sneakers on my '70 within 6-months. It's got the 15x8 rally wheels. I want to go raised white letters, they weren't OEM were they? Leaning towards BFG because I've had negative "longevity" with Eagles in the past. Any thoughts on this?
Where's the cheapest place to buy them online, I've got a tire machine in my shop.
I have removed my parking brake assembly and love the fat meats. Here is a answer to a question I asked Vette Magazine:
Jon,
There's only one possible problem area with the 275/60s. They're the
perfect size tires for the stock 8-inch wheels and there is not clearance
problem around the fenders. The trailing arms present the potential problem,
and this seems to differ from car to car. Actually, the only point where
there's any possible clearance issue on the stock trailing arms is the
parking brake cable bracket, which is factory-welded onto the outer side of
each arm--just about where the sidewall of the tire is. We're running an
article on this very subject in the July issue, and used my '76 for the
guinea pig. In a nutshell, the solution (to insure you don't have any
problems) is to relocate the parking brake cable bracket onto the top of the
trailing arm. The parking brake still is fully functional, and getting the
bracket out of the way gives an extra inch or so of clearance for tires.
I'll be running a picture of a '72 Vette that's running 295/50-15s (on stock
rims) on the rear, with the modified original trailing arms. It's tight with
the 295s, but even those thing do clear. I put 275/60s on the back of my '76
and they fit perfectly. Feel free to call me if you have any specific
questions.
